Move over Monkey

I removed the monkey. I thought he was cute, but he's a bit of a nuisance....He get's in the way of people leaving comments, so he's outta here!! :)

Great news!!! My brother is now home from Afghanistan! He was actually on US soil a few days ago, but made it back to his home today. We're so happy he's home with his wife and kids. I know they missed him terribly.

No tournament this weekend. We got word from the coach today that the Ringgold Tournament has been cancelled. However, weather provided, we will be practicing Saturday morning. Randy and Walker will be at practice at 9am. Wyatt and I will follow shortly after my WW meeting.

Speaking of WW, today has been better. I'm still SUPER nervous about Saturday's weigh-in, but I'm hoping I can redeem myself in the last couple of days, we'll see.

Weight Watchers Blues

I'm having a really tough week with WW. I just feel hungry.....well, that's not necessarily true. I have had a sweet tooth this week. Maybe I'll soon be getting a visit from AF and that's why, IDK? I'm so afraid that I'll gain wait this week. I really think the only thing that saved me last week was that stupid stomach flu. I'm trying VERY hard today to have only healthy foods and to stay under points today. I had a huge salad for lunch. It was so good, but I'm totally craving one of those cupcakes I bought Walker yesterday.
I think about Walker and little Wyatt and know I MUST do well. I have to get this weight off so I can be around for them for a long, long time. After all, since Wyatt is my last baby, I need to be around to spoil my future grandchildren. :)
Ok, I feel better now. I've had my little pity party.

Bellyaches, Baseball & Boyfriends

Yes, I said boyfriend. Got your attention, huh!?! Let's go in chronological order, shall we?

Bellyaches: I was sick with a stomach bug/flu type thing starting on Thursday. By Friday, Walker was sick and stayed home from school. I was so nervous that we were both going to be sick when our visitors arrived. Thankfully, by Friday afternoon I was able to eat a Popsicle and then moved on to a small helping of mashed potatoes and a biscuit. Walker pretty much stayed in bed and just vegged out all day long. He was feeling better by Saturday morning.

Baseball: Walker missed his teams first baseball game. He was just too sick. He was so upset that he missed it, but there was no way he could play. More to come about the rest of the baseball weekend further down in this post.

Boyfriends:
My dear friend A, with whom I've been friends for 17 years, her children and her boyfriend came for a visit this weekend. I was quite apprehensive about the meeting in the beginning, but was excited to see Anna and the kids, so I tried not to let it get to me. A and I met in basic training when I was a mere baby of 18 years old.....we've stayed in touch ever since. Randy and I first met A's now ex-husband in 1996 (I believe) and are the God-parents to their two children. We don't see each other on a regular basis, but communicate regularly through phone and email. We try to visit each other every year or so.
This was our first meeting with T, 'the boyfriend'. Not to get into the details, but when I was first told about T I was not very happy, but a friend is a friend is a friend....no matter what. You may not always agree, but you're always there to cheer on or pick up the pieces, sometimes both at the same time. It took me some many years to truly understand this....when you're young you often think the world revolves around you and you don't always appreciate those true friendships as you do when you're older. Little did I know way back when that there will only be a very few that are considered to be true friends. Some you even consider family and they know you so well it's scary; some you may see rarely but are very close and wish you could see them more but the miles separate you; and some you go years(nearly 2 decades in some cases) without seeing or speaking to and seem to pick up right where you left of and you wonder how you ever lost touch and feel sadness for all the years lost. But I digress....
We finally got to meet T this weekend. I'm not quite sure what I expected, but it wasn't what I saw....does that make sense? He is very nice and very quite; I kind of expected him to be a little more outgoing and talkative.....but it's understandable I guess. I'm sure it was more uncomfortable for him than for us. Overall, I think the visit went very well. Randy and T had a little time to chat about whatever guys chat about....do men "chat"? Probably not, but nonetheless, they got to and Randy said he seems to be a nice enough guy. I agree. However, I do reserve the right to change my mind at any time :) BTW, if you're wondering.....Yes, A does read my blog, so no secrets here :) love ya, girl!
Here's some pics of their visit.
A and Me atop Wilder Tower in Chickamauga Battlefield--that is 134 steps up and 134 down! OMG!!! We thought we would die!!!!

Here's looking up when the kids, Randy and T when back. The little dots are C, E & Randy looking down at us.

E, C & Walker

And here is one I took of one of the most photogenic boys ever:

After our little trip to the battlefield and then to Lookout Mtn, it was time for Walker's first ball game! As I said earlier, his team actually played the night before, but Walker was too sick to play...so it was the teams 2nd game. They lost the game, but they all played so well. Walker had a great time. Here are a few pics:

Even though the team lost on Saturday (and Friday), it's a triple elimination tournament, so they got another shot on Sunday. We met A and her bunch for breakfast and had surprise tag-a-longs: my dad and stepmom (aka Pop & Yaya). Then we all went to the playground until it was time for Walker's next game. Dad & Lisa were on their bike. Walker 'said' he wanted to go for a ride, then Pop turned it on and he changed his mind. He did, however, agree to pose for some pics:
After the park, it was time for everyone to go their separate ways. A, T & the kids went back to ATL to catch their flight back to Philly; Dad and Lisa went back to Joanie's to load up the bike and head back to White Bluff and we headed to the ball fields.

Walker played great again today! They won their first game of the day and had to be back to play a 2nd game at 5:30. Sadly, they losst the 2nd game, but they got medals and were very happy about that. They were great!! Here's Walker just after getting his first medal:

We have another tournament this coming weekend, weather provided. It's going to be a great (and long) baseball season for us. There will be a parade of teams through Ft. Oglethorpe on 4/11 and then openinig ceremonies for the regular season. We actually have a regular season game on the scedule the weekend before...not sure how that happened, but oh well. I'm kind of bummed to find out about the date of the ceremony because we were planning to go to Alabama that weekend (of Good Friday and Easter) to visit my brother and his family. We've decided to plan that trip for another time so Walker doesn't miss this part of his ball season.

Weight Watchers Update: I lost 4.2lbs Saturday!! YIPPEEEEEE!! I'm sure the stomach flu helped some, but I'll take it! :) I'm now down 8lbs in 2 weeks. I received my first 5lb star on Saturday at the meeting. I hope I can keep this momentum going. I'll keep you posted.

Not as bad as I thought.....

So, I was thinking today 'I really need to blog; it's been forever!' But then I pull it up today and realize that it's been only a week since my last post...not as bad as I thought.
Here's the 411 on the last week for us...........

Walker was out of school on Thursday and Friday. We didn't do too much. Played outside, went to the park and just hung out.

The weekend:
Ball tournament was cancelled due to rain, rain and more rain. We were so disappointed. Walker did, however, get his uniform. Let's just say that Randy made a boo-boo with the size. My little man is just that, little. A Youth Medium shirt swallows him! It looks like a 3/4 length sleeved dress on him! :)He really needed the small, but we'll make due. I'm going to have the sleeves hemmed, and that should take care of it. Walker is #6. He thought that was cool since he's turning 6 in May.

On Sunday we loaded up the van with the 4 of us, Randy's parents and my mom (thank goodness for an 8 passenger mini-van!)to go out to lunch and to a liquidation store in Hixson, Lila's - located in Highland Plaza at the corner of Hixson Pk and Ashland Terrace. They sell things from hotels (Hilton, Hampton, etc) like tables, chairs, sofas, headboards, armoires, etc....it was full of stuff and people. There were some great buys to be had if you're in the market for that kind of stuff. We bought Walker a new night stand for his room. We'd had just one of the round tables with a table cloth, but he broke one of the legs and started using it as a sword--boys! So, even though it doesn't match his head board, it'll work just fine. It's in great condition and is VERY sturdy, which is what we need! Mom bought Erika a chest that she can make cushions for and sit on and use for storage. Randy's parents bought a writing desk; they were actually in the market for a TV armoire, but the one they wanted was already sold. We'll probably check back in a couple of weeks.

Monday it was STILL raining. I was supposed to meet Tara, Lana and their kids at the park for a play date after Walker got out of school, but it was raining. There was no work scanned in for me, so I went to do some shopping with Randy and we had lunch. Walker had a good day at school and all seemed well with the world. Randy went off to work (he's on 2nd all week long) around 4. I managed to get both kids in the bed and sleeping by around 8 or so. While I was on the phone, Walker woke up with what I thought was a bad dream. Turned out he had an ear ache. That was the beginning of a VERY LONG NIGHT!! Poor baby was in so much pain, I hurt for him. Randy had a short night at work and was home by around 10ish, thank goodness! I thought we were going to have to take Walker to the ER because he was in so much pain. Randy made a midnight run to Walgreens for ear drops. A warm compress, Tylenol and ear drops bought about 3.5 - 4 hours of continuous sleep....for Walker & Randy any way; I kept waking up to check on him. He was just pitiful. We went through another bout of sever pain around 4ish and again considered taking him to the ER. More drops and warm compress seemed to do the trick for a bit. Then, it started draining...can you say GROSS!!!! OMG, it was no wonder that baby was in so much pain. I've never, in my life, seen so much drainage from an ear. Never in his life has he ever had an ear infection that caused so much pain and drained like this! We went to Dr. Erinle's office first thing Tuesday morning. Since these are walk-in hours, if you're not the first there, you must be prepared to wait. I thought that by getting there at 8:45, we should be good...WRONG!! There were 5 people ahead of us. Well worth it though to see Dr. E. He's the best! We finally got back to see him about 11am. Yes, that's over 2 hours in the waiting room! Luckily, there was a little boy there the same age as Walker and they played together. Dr. Erinle used peroxide in his ear and cleaned it out--Walker didn't like that at all, but he was a big boy and made it through it! :) He is back on antibiotics for the 3rd time in less than 2 months. He was also prescribed ear drops. His little ear is still draining.
Here's a pic of Walker at the dr. office:

His teacher called today to ask if it was OK for Walker to play outside. How sweet of her to think to call and ask. I told her it was fine. It's a warm day out and he's feeling better. She said he's only complained once of his ear bothering him, so I think he's fine to go out--it's not like they are out there for hours.

St. Patty's Day
I don't have a picture of Walker in his St. Patty's Day shirt because his ear leaked on it and he immediately took it off before I could get one. But, here's a picture of Wyatt is his green attire:

Plans for this weekend:

Weather provided, we should be playing ball this weekend! We don't know if we're playing Friday or Saturday yet. I'm hoping for Saturday so Randy can go to his first game. I'll post info and pics!

My friend Anna, her 2 kids (our God-children, Cody & Erin) and her boyfriend are coming to town for a visit. We're looking forward to meeting Tim for the first time. I'm sure I'll have stories and pics to share next week!

And, btw....I have a warning for you: Please BEWARE of full glasses of water at Olive Garden! They have a tendacy to fall off trays and into the laps of unsuspecting patrons!! And to top it off (pardon the pun) they see no need to make appologies for it! For more info on this story, please go to http://blevinsnewhouse.blogspot.com/2009/03/olive-garden-drowning.html

Late Night Practice

Ball practice went pretty well last night considering the time. With Tuesday practices not starting until 7:30, it makes for a late night for 5 & 6 year old kids. By the end of practice, which was around 9pm I think, the kids were silly. There was a lot of playing in the dirt. I think overall they did really well. I was especially proud of Walker for holding it together as long as he did. I really expected that he would be bouncing off the walls, but he was pretty well controlled. Sure he got a little silly and was having a hard time focusing while standing on 3rd base for what probably seemed like hours to him. But, he wasn't the only one having a hard time....It is just a little late for little kids....especially when there's school the next day.
Walker did a great job batting too. Here are a few pics we took when he was up to bat:

Um, as you can see we're trying to figure out the best way to take pics at night under those bright field lights.

We also ordered shirts and hats to support Walker during the games....Mom and I got shirts and Randy got a shirt and a hat. We're going to try to find a plain shirt for Wyatt and see about getting Walker's number put on it so he can wear team colors too.

We also got Walker's regular season schedule. WOW, big change from last year. In Spring Hill Little League the kids only played 8 games (I think). This year we have pre-season tournaments for the next 3 weekends. Regular season games start on April 4th, then I hear they also have post-season tournaments. We have 15 regular season games...2 of which are on Walker's birthday! I'm glad we found out now so I can plan his birthday party.....which I better get started on since it's now less than 2 months away. Where does the time go?

The Cleat Defeat

Walker is so excited about his new cleats he picked out yesterday, I wanted to share a picture. Let me preface the picture with this explanation:
These are not the cleats we intended to buy. For 5/6 year old baseball, I really could care less about the brand of shoes we buy....I guess I'm just cheap that way. I don't understand paying a lot of money for shoes they will get about 2-3 months use out of...because you know they won't fit them next year! Well, after our all day shopping on Saturday for baseball stuff and comparing prices of cleats, I decided Hibbett's had the best price. So we headed back there yesterday after I picked Walker up from school. I intended getting the $14.99 cleats. Well, wouldn't you know it, they didn't have his size in the $14.99 cleats! UGH!! They also don't have any more of the $19.99 Nike's that I saw there on Friday which was going to be my back up option. Great. I really don't want to go back out for cleats again, so I relent and let Walker pick from the $24.99 bunch. I know it's just $10, but it's really frustrating when I had only spent about $16 (with tax) in my mind. So, Walker decided on the red Nike's. I must say, they are cute...but just the other day at practice I had made the comment about how I would not spend the money to buy name brand stuff for 5/6 baseball because it's just a waste of money when they will out grow it....Open Mouth, Insert Foot....or should I say Cleat!
So, without further ado, I give you..........

Great Week

I had the honor of having lunch with 2 long lost friends from high school on Thursday. It was so great to catch up. I'm so jealous though...Lana and Tara both look just like they did in high school! And here I am so fat and frumpy still wearing some of my maternity clothes because I can't fit into much else. But you know what, friends don't care about that....just about who you are as a person. None-the-less, it was so great to see them and to catch up...after all it has been 18 years since we graduated!! OMG, I'm getting SO old!! :) Tara and Lana got to meet Wyatt, you know he's my sidekick. They both have kids Walker's age...it was so neat to talk about the parallels of our lives even without being in touch for so long. Funny how that happens... I hope that we'll meet up on a regular basis now. I meant to take my camera, but forgot it after the whole crayon in the dryer fiasco just before I was heading out.

Thursday was also Walker's first baseball practice. They had to practice on the polo field, but at least they got one in since the last 2 were called off due to rain and cold. Walker was so excited that Alex, his classmate, is on his team. They are the Warriors and will have Red, Black & Gray uniforms. They will look so cute!
They had practice on a field on Saturday....here are a few pics that Randy took for me:

After practice we went out to look for Walker's baseball gear. Since his bag, bat, batting gloves and balls are in the back of the storage bldg, we got new stuff. Let me ask you this, who the heck buys a $200 bat for a 5/6 year old?? Well, I can tell you this, not us! Even if we pass it down to Wyatt, do you really get your money's worth?? I think not. So, Walker got another $20 bat and he's happy as a clam with it. We actually saw bats that were $600!! Um, can I get a H-E double hockey sticks, NO!!! We found great prices on new stuff at Play It Again Sports on Lee Hwy in Chattanooga. They were so helpful and the prices were great! We even splurged and got Walker a new bag. We got it for less than half the price it was at Hibbett's and Dick's. The only thing I didn't get there was Walker's cleats...I'm going back to Hibbett's--they had the best price on shoes.

Sunday Walker and Wyatt's presence was requested by their Nana, Ninny & Aunt Debbie. Here are a couple of pics mom took of Wyatt and Aunt Debbie:

While the kids were there, we took Walker's new helmet to the East Ridge Flea Market to be airbrushed. Not my favorite place in the world to go, but I was told the airbrushing place there was good.....and they were~ they did a great job. I also found a lady that make hair bows and embroiders them...I got one for my niece, Samantha, to match her ball uniform. Here's a picture of Walker wearing his newly airbrushed helmet:

It's not a great pic, but it's the only one I got and he wouldn't let me take another one....you know, he was too busy!

And just for good measure...here's a cute pic of Wyatt with his big toothless grin I took just before his mid-morning bottle.

My little man is growing so fast. He's now starting to wear 3-6 months size clothes!

Oh, goodness, I almost forgot to share some of my most important news of the week. I joined Weight Watchers!! Yep, and I have a WW buddy, Christa. We're gonna get skinny together!! Now, you know I'm not gonna share my weight with the world, but as I loose, I will share how much I'm loosing. It's taking some getting used to with the points system, but I'm so motivated!! I'm not overly concerned with the scale so much as how I look and feel. I have 2 little kids and I need to be in the best health possible. I'm so pumped about it!

One last thing for today....my brother will be home from Afghanistan at the end of this month! We're so excited his time there is almost done! We can't wait to see him, but most importantly, his wife and kids can't wait to see him!!!

Take care....and send Thin Thoughts my way!! ;)

Snow? What snow?

Well, yet another disappointing snow forecast for SE Tennessee/NW Georgia. Seems like here in the Chattanooga area we get nothing but rain. To the North, South, East and West of us was snow....but did it fall here?? Oh, maybe a few flakes early in the morning but that's it!
I was so hoping Walker would FINALLY get the snow he's been wishing for all winter. What a let down....not even a dusting to take pictures in.

It's a sad, sad day here in Chattanooga. :(
