I Support Our LFO Cheerleaders!

Here in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, one of our local high schools is in the throws of controversy. 'Why?' you ask? Because of biblical scripture being used as messages of encouragement to the football players.
.

This is the high school that my boys will likely attend when they are of age and it makes me sad to think that we cannot show our faith in any way. These cheerleaders made the signs on their own time during the summer break, and they did not use school funds to purchase the necessary supplies to make them.I sent an email to our school superintendent, and this is the reply I received this morning.

Dear Mrs. Douglas,
Thank you for your email supporting the LFO tradition of Bible verses on run-thru signs at football games. I am personally very proud that our students have continued this expression of their Christian beliefs. Unfortunately, displaying a Bible verse on the football field violates federal law. This violation could result in law suits or loss of our federal funding.
While I must comply with the law, it is also very important to me that our students have the opportunity to express their religious beliefs. I have spent the weekend working with our legal counsel. We have designated a visible area outside the football stadium for the signs. In fact, this will allow for the signs to be displayed longer than they are on the field. I am also very impressed that our students have taken this opportunity make a personal expression of their Christian beliefs by wearing t-shirts and making signs with religious messages to display during the game.
I appreciate your email and your support for this LFO tradition. I am so proud to live and work in a community that values Christian beliefs. I hope you understand my responsibility to comply with the law even when it does not align with my personal beliefs.
I have attached a copy of our press release with our attorney’s interpretation of the rulings of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals on the 1st Amendment. I will be glad to respond to your email if you have additional concerns.
With kindest regards,

Denia Reese

Numbers and Soap

On Wednesday, Walker announced that he had gotten two phone numbers at school....GIRLS PHONE NUMBERS! WTH? Really? 6 year olds giving out phone numbers.....wow. I was shocked. He wanted to call them when he got home. That would be a NEGATORY! NOT GONNA HAPPEN! I had to explain that at 6 years old he did not need to be calling the homes of little girls. My dear husband thought it was hillarious and was proud that he's such a ladies man. Whatevah!

On Thursday morning Walker was in rare form....probably not true, it's not rare for him to be wound up first thing in the morning, but the attitude was particularly bad. Anyhow, he was back-talking. I was sick. I told him to please keep it down, do what I asked without argument because I didn't feel good. "PLEASE, just stop and get dressed." I think were the words....well, I got the good old "You're a butthead!" Excuse me? I don't think so. I advised him that he was to get dressed, and meet me in the kitchen for his punishment. I didn't yell, I didn't spank, just 'meet me in the kitchen'. His smart mouth continued with "You're just going to spank me, aren't you?" Imagine that in that smart-mouthed little sing-song way kids do....yep, that's it.
He finally got dressed and came to the kitchen where I'd prepared him a glass of cold water. I then proceeded to tell him to close his eyes and open his mouth. I squirted a little bit of Dawn dish liquid on my finger and rubbed it on his tongue. Then the screaming began! I told him to calm down, I had a glass of water for him that he should take a sip and swish it around his mouth. Guess what, that makes bubbles!! Yep, all a part of the lesson. He rinsed his mouth and promptly went to brush his teeth.
Soon after, I received an apology.

I don't think he'll soon be forgetting that he will be punished. His punishment may not be what he expects either. I'd told him a few weeks ago that I would do it if he called a name. So, there you go. I did it.
Mean? I don't really think so. Wasn't anything that hurt him......had a bad taste in his mouth. And hopefully that will be a nice memory of dirty words & name calling = getting your mouth washed with soap.

Prayers Please

Please pray for my friend Christa's husband, Dwayne. He has received a scary diagnosis of a carcinoid(sp?) tumor of the colon. Yesterday the diagnosis was explained to be not so bad. Unfortunately the doc, after further review, determined that the diagnosis is worse than expected. They were told that the survival rate is 87% over 5 years. They will be doing a follow up colonoscopy at the hospital next week with a surgeon on stand-by.
Dwayne is 35 years old. He and Christa have 2 small children.
Please keep them in your prayers.

Photo Catch-up & Upcoming Events

Since Wyatt and I were sick last week, I didn't take the time to post pics from the weekend prior.
On Saturday, September 5th we attended Hayden's birthday party. They had it at Coolidge Park. I love this place! I always get great pics of the kids there....but this time I got a bonus of getting some great pics of my mom.

Before moving on to the pics, I want to tell you that I will be going white water rafting on Saturday, September 19th. Yes, you read correctly....me, white water rafting. I know, I know. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I'm nervous, but excited at the same time. I will be a chaperon for my sisters ROTC day trip to Ocoee. While I'm doing that, Randy and Walker will be at the airport for Walker's first boyscout field trip where they will get to go behind the scenes at the Chattanooga Municipal Airport. Wyatt will spending some time with Nana while all this is going on. :)

Yep, it's that time of year, folks. We've already had our annual coupon book sale, now it's time for wrapping paper! If you'd like to order, please let me know. real quick.....

Wanted put up a post. Wyatt and I have been sick this week and now the hubby has come down with it. I'm just hoping that we can keep Walker from getting it.
Took Wyatt to the doc yesterday. Double ear infection and sinus infection is what he has. Fever was gone this morning, so I took him to daycare....we'll see how it goes. I have gotten little work done this week, which means I'll be working all weekend. Having no sick time or vacation time is for the birds. I hope that one day I'll be an "official full-time" employee so I have those benefits again. But for now, this is what it is.
I digress......back to the doctor appointment. So, Wyatt is 2 weeks shy of his 9mo. wellbaby visit, but I had to post his stats as of yesterday.

Weight- 19lbs 12oz
Height- 29 1/4 inches
His head measured either 18 or 18.5, can't remember.

This is so funny to me because Wyatt is now BIGGER than what Walker was at his 1 year wellbaby. Granted, Walker is a small kid, was a small baby, but still.....Wyatt is just shy of 9 months. I know he's not a huge baby but he seems that way compared to how his big brother was as a baby.

The Whole Tooth and nothing but the Tooth!
Wyatt's first tooth has finally broken thru!!! Walker's first permanant tooth is coming in now.

Oh, my! My boys are growing much too fast......
I'll post some tooth pics when time allows.....probably next week.
Gotta get to work while I can!!

Handsome Hair.....

My child is too much!
Today is picture day at school; I asked Walker what he wanted to wear.

He said "A tie."

Oh, ok....... So, he wore a button down and tie for his school picture. I asked him how he wanted his hair....did he want his "cool" hair (spiked or faux-hawk)?
He said "No, Mommy, I want handsome hair."
So, he did it himself.

Here's a pic before taking him to school.
